Puzzles are fairly obvious with little challenge meaning that observer is more of a passive experience than a traditional game. The main story is under ten hours including side quests with most of the enjoyment coming from exploring the dark and strange world. There is no combat and very limited horror elements, making the game more of a walking simulator than anything else. Gameplay consists of searching through levels for clues with the aid of a scanner.
